In 1976 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi called out for as many TM-teachers as possible to gather in Switzerland for a period of 6 month. It became a famous course, a lot of stories and everybody who attended had a special reputation. It was here that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi started giving out the technique described in the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. He claimed that he was teaching the correct way of doing what Patanjali describes. This had been hidden knowledge for a long time, but now it was time to give that knowledge to as many people as possible. Those who learned the technique were called Siddhas.
There was a lot of secrecy around it. It could only be talked it when all present were Siddhas. I experienced some weird situations. It was here I first time saw the flip side of the new age spirituality. I think Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had seen this coming, but that he also saw the benefit of as many as possible were practicing the TM Siddhi Technique. The world’s whole collective consciousness was at tipping point. He explained that even when the arrow had left the bow it would be possible to create a side wind, so the arrow would not hit the goal.
I got the techniques some years later, but only those who had the full course were accepted as “real” Siddhas.
Back to the Patanjali Yoga Sutras: There is a point that can confuse: sutra is the name for each verse of the 96 verses he wrote. When you check on this number you can get other numbers but here the focus is on the use of the word sutra.
I learned to understand the words used in the Technique as a sutras too. Sutra is here in the meaning of a tread that we let dive into the Pure Consciousness. And then it will ripple away and create the desired effect in the whole of creation. Period. No less than that. So when I in the following will use the word Sutra is to describe the words used in the Siddhi Technique.
I am also deferring from using the phrase “TM Siddhi Programme” as I am not teaching TM. I am introducing you to the Siddhi Technique. It can be used on top of whatever kind of meditation you practice. As a side note I want to mention, that I now meditate following the instructions in Vipassana. I do prefer that kind of meditation where you are not giving any value to whatever thoughts arise during the practice. When any thought or sensation arises you innocently return to your practice, as described in TM or Vipassana.
You can write down the sutras until you can remember all of them. It is all very simple and effective. And as with any other secret knowledge this has been hidden from the general public. I do understand why the great teachers of this knowledge have wanted to keep this technique to the few selected students. It is powerful and in the hands of Ego-driven persons the risk of abusing both the technique and people exposed to it is great.
To the best of my knowledge Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and his crew did choose a select few of the total possibilities mentioned by Patanjali. The Sutras chosen are the ones less prone to boost the ego in the ego-driven persons. Still the effect on the person, the Siddha, her family, workplace and whole society is great. In the late 70ies and the early 80ies there was much research done on both individuals, on schools and whole cities. There are statistics that show that when sufficient numbers people meditate or practice the Siddhi Technique, the crime rate drops, less hospitalizations and much more changes for the better.
When you listen to the video in the link from YouTube you will be asked to meditate for about 30 minutes before starting the Siddhi Technique. In the video I will guide you into the use of the Siddhi Technique.
HUGE DISCLAIMER: I am introducing you to this technique.
That's it.
